We greet any guest who visits us in Miami with one of these. And let me tell you, people are SHOCKED when they realize it's as simple as a vodka soda, and only 60 calories to boot! I can sip these babies ALL DAY. This cocktail is cold, slightly fruity and refreshing, yet simple and not too sweet. It tastes like a summer breeze...
Behind the cocktail
Like most of my recipes, I stumbled upon the inspiration for my Ruby-Red Grapefruit Vodka Soda accidentally. When I finished school and had no idea what to do with my life, I coached sailing for a summer just outside of Detroit on Lake St. Clair. If you've never been to Lake St. Clair in the summer, I highly recommend it. It's a shallow lake, so it warms quickly, and is a stunning Caribbean blue most of the time.
Anyway, my host family (should out to Tiffany and Dan!) invited me to race on their J70 one evening, and post-race drinks at the club bar. The sailing mommies all ordered these yummy-looking pink drinks, so naturally I ordered one too. It would be an understatement to say I my mind was blown.
I bought a fifth of Deep Eddy Ruby Red Vodka the very next weekend when I visited my friend in Cleveland. He was equally shocked that a Vodka Soda could be so yummy. Needless to say, the fifth disappeared before the weekend was over.
Sip this cocktail outside on a warm summer evening, ideally in a porch swing or hammock. Enjoy!

Ruby Red Grapefruit Vodka Soda
Ingredients
- 1-2 oz Deep Eddy Ruby Red Vodka Depending on how strong you like your drink
- 1 Lime Flavored Soda Plain + a spritz of fresh lime juice also works
- Ice cubes
- 2-3 Basil Leaves
- 1 Lime Optional Wedges For Garnish
Instructions
- Muddle basil and vodka in the bottom of your glass. Add ice cubes, then fill the rest of the glass with soda. Garnish with lime, and enjoy!
